I am not sure we speak about the same things, however, since social engineering (that is, conning information or access or whatever out of people) is not mentioned in the article.
The proposed mechanics would bring new intelligence-gathering options, not replace metagaming. Their purpose is to give players of different kinds more reasons to interact.Achernarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05337708576651220991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5865041547119615103.post-91362639724704601782009-06-07T06:09:44.677+02:002009-06-07T06:09:44.677+02:00Agree with Ga'len. Then again didn't we already had this before with the ISD live events?CrazyKinuxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17787815504812195151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5865041547119615103.post-28194088167773961022009-06-03T21:38:45.906+02:002009-06-03T21:38:45.906+02:00Hmm...hard coding such social interactions ultimat...Hmm...hard coding such social interactions ultimatly leads to the same issue we have now, dead end interactions.

Perhaps MMORPG's should consider having "Live NPC's" where people actually play the role of the NPC. That may bring another level to the unique experience.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5865041547119615103.post-57684824047049162732009-05-27T13:08:02.677+02:002009-05-27T13:08:02.677+02:00I like the idea of putting randomness into mission...I like the idea of putting randomness into missions. At the moment they're very monotonous because they're always the same. A bit more procedural stuff and random naming would be great. Mix that up with the Sleeper AI and I think missions might actually get more interesting than "ya, ya, damsel", orbit, target, shoot, scoop...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5865041547119615103.post-74398011605725565792009-05-27T06:09:51.302+02:002009-05-27T06:09:51.302+02:00I love the ideas for random names and adding a lit...I love the ideas for random names and adding a little "spice" to the missions. The coding for that would be a pain though.

I have to agree with Mandrill about the social engineering aspects of Eve though... not sure it's such a good idea. Kudos to you for the ideas though.TheNudeNerdhttp://www.thenudenerd.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5865041547119615103.post-43786328035633417542009-05-26T11:50:54.817+02:002009-05-26T11:50:54.817+02:00Hardcoding the social engineering aspects of EVE i...Hardcoding the social engineering aspects of EVE into the game would necessarily restrict their usefulness. The Alliance Vs Alliance metagaming is one of the things that makes EVE great. Once you code for the possibility of espionage, the actions of the players will be restricted by that code, when in reality, no restriction should exist.

Some nice ideas with regards to random name generators and such though. I know for a fact that I was getting fed up with saving that damned Damsel, one of the reasons I stopped missioning and became a pirate. Now every encounter is unique and I set my own goals and missions, no- need to hard code unique adventures into the game, they're already here youjust have to have the will to go out and make them.Mandrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03968818764660945524noreply@blogger.com
